In honor of Black History Month we at Reel Reality will bring light to the history of black cinema.

The Lincoln Motion Picture Company was the first African-American production company. Established in Omaha, Nebraska in 1915 by two brothers – George and Noble Johnson. The production company became the first producer of “race movies,” dedicated to accurately depicting black reality and fostering a positive black image. The Lincoln company produced five films before its closing, their most acclaimed movie being “By Right of Birth,” in 1921.
