I do not believe it is a coincidence that only a week after the Trayvon Martin case comes to an end theaters are releasing Fruitvale Station. An emotional, dramatic film that is based on the fatal shooting of Oscar Grant, a 22 year-old African American, who was shot in the back, while handcuffed on the floor, by a white police officer at Oakland’s BART Fruitvale Station on New Year’s Day 2009.

Written and Directed by Ryan Coogler the film shows Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan) journey through life on the last day of 2008. His interactions with his family, friends, and strangers, his struggle to make a better life for himself and his family by being a better father and boyfriend, and his final encounter with Bay Area police officers.

Fruitvale Station has already released in select theaters and opens nationwide on July 26th!!! Please go support this great film!! Special Thanks and Love for all those who made this story come to light and to all those who are supporting the film!

And for a look inside the film check out BET Monday night at 7:30pm.
